Rights Respecting School Bronze to Silver

A rights respecting school is a school that follows the principles of the United Nations convention on the rights of a child. and adults and children together can make a difference in children lives. It is a school where the rights of children are learned practiced and enforced through everyday learning and where children will learn that no matter who you are, how old you are, big or small we all have rights and all children are entitled to having those rights met." We began our journey to becoming a rights respecting school in September 2019, but due to COVID many of our actions and activities were on hold, until September 2023. We resumed our RRSA journey in September 2023, and although it hasn't always been easy, this academic year we have managed to achieve bronze status for our school. We are the only Greek school in the U.K to have achieved Bronze status and it is our goal for the next academic year to achieve Silver. It it's important to us to be a part of something so big and something so important, it teaches our children their rights and gives them a voice to speak up now and throughout their lives.
It also showcases the importance of having these rights not just in this country but in other countries around the world where it is not always clear, and rights are not automatically given. Overall it teaches our children the importance of fighting for what is right always.
SILVER ACCREDITATION RRSA UNICEF
In January, the Greek School of Ayia Triada Birmingham proudly achieved the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Silver Accreditation, marking a significant milestone in the school's commitment to promoting and protecting children's rights. This achievement is the result of a dedicated two-year journey of continuous improvement, involving extensive hard work, the development and revision of policies, and the adoption of rights-respecting practices that place the rights and wellbeing of every child at the heart of all aspects of school life.
Following a comprehensive assessment process, including panel discussions with parents, members of the Management Board, pupils, and teaching staff, the school successfully demonstrated its commitment to embedding the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child throughout its community. The award recognises the collective efforts of everyone involved in creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment where every child is valued and heard.
Achieving Silver Accreditation is an important milestone, but it is also the beginning of the next stage of our journey. The Greek School of Ayia Triada Birmingham is now working towards UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Gold Accreditation, continuing to strengthen its rights-respecting culture and ensuring that children's rights remain at the centre of everything we do.
