GCSE Modern Greek FT & HT

PRE-GCSE (Year 7)

Welcome to our GCSE Programme for Modern Greek! Students who complete their Primary Education at our school can continue their Greek language studies by progressing to Year 7, which serves as the Pre-GCSE class. After successfully completing the Pre-GCSE year, students advance to GCSE1, where they begin to engage with the GCSE syllabus and prepare for the examinations.

During the Pre-GCSE year, students will cover essential grammar and vocabulary, focusing on writing and speaking skills. This preparation aligns with the five themes outlined in the syllabus guidelines, ensuring a strong foundation for success in the GCSE exams.

At this stage, we are committed to delivering a comprehensive and engaging educational experience for our students. Our curriculum emphasizes the development of the four essential language skills—reading, writing, listening, and speaking—while providing thorough preparation for the GCSE exams. This includes practice papers, mock exams, and personalized feedback.

The areas of targeted work in our GCSE classes align with the four strands of language learning as outlined by the European Framework for Languages and the new GCSE syllabus for Higher Tier (HT) and Foundation Tier (FT). These strands are:

  • Speaking
  • Listening and Understanding
  • Reading and Responding
  • Writing

In our GCSE Greek classes, students explore topics outlined by Pearson Edexcel, such as:

  • Who am I?
  • Friendship
  • Daily Life
  • Cultural Life
  • Holidays
  • Travel and Tourist Transactions
  • Town, Region, and Country
  • What School is Like
  • School Activities
  • Using Languages Beyond the Classroom
  • Ambitions
  • Work
  • Bringing the World Together
  • Environmental Issues

Students engage with these topics through continuous reading, writing, listening, and speaking exercises. Additionally, they review previously learned Greek grammar and expand their vocabulary.

Our primary goals for the GCSE Greek Language Programme include:

  • Enabling students to achieve a high level of proficiency in Greek
  • Fostering an appreciation for Greek culture and heritage
  • Thoroughly preparing students for their GCSE exams
  • Inspiring a lifelong love for the Greek language and culture

If you are eager to achieve proficiency in the Greek language and explore Greek culture, join us on this journey to discover the richness of one of the world's most ancient and influential languages.

Finally we are proud to introduced the Surviving Speaking Book which is widely used across UK and it aims at supporting candidates with their GCSE Speaking Assessment. You can contact us should you wish to source this book

"Teaching the GCSE students is a unique and rewarding experience. It presents a mix of challenges, but it’s incredibly fulfilling watching students gain confidence in their speaking, reading, listening and writing skills and develop a deeper understanding of the Greek language. Overall, it’s a journey of growth for both the students and myself, and I cherish the moments when they achieve their goals and express genuine appreciation for learning the Greek language..."
